Even Aggregates Were Stylish in the '60s

It seems everything was stylish in the '60s, even the new office of United Materials, which mined aggregates from the alluvial deposits of the Salt River near 19th Avenue in Phoenix.

The building was designed by architect John Schotanus, who was also the architect-in-charge of the Park Central Shopping Center.

This sand and gravel pit, which still supplies materials for construction projects in the Valley, is spotlighted in "Pit Stop, " the "Back When" feature in the Jan/Feb issue of Arizona Contractor & Community Magazine L.L.C.
