Cullum Homes Shares Insight and the Latest Techniques for Building Its Signature Basements
As the temperatures heat up outside right now there may be no cooler place to retreat from the heat than inside one of Arizona’s finest luxury basements by Cullum Homes.
Recently awarded the prestigious National Custom Home Builder of the Year award, Scottsdale based Cullum Homes, is currently digging basements in the highly anticipated Village at Seven Desert Mountain. Built directly on two golf courses at the brand new Seven Desert Mountain community, and named for the seventh private course in this exclusive community, Cullum is offering a basement option for its 33 top-tier custom golf estates.
Offering only the most luxurious and highest-end amenities and options including guest casitas, Wolf Sub Zero appliance packages, oversized garages to accommodate up to 7 cars, Cullum will also feature its signature one-of-a-kind Car Bar basement with a golf twist. An optional “19th Hole” basement entertainment zone complete with indoor golf simulator, glass-enclosed collector car showroom, theater area and wet bar is available.
But digging for this 19th Hole entertainment zone is no easy task. Basements in Arizona require hard digs and assuring proper drainage, two important considerations and challenges when building a basement.
In Desert Mountain Cullum is using CMU (concrete block) construction for its basement options, as CMU construction offers numerous advantages including energy efficiency, durability, fire resistance, noise reduction, superior temperature control, green construction and overall a superior product.
While the price tag to build a basement can be higher than building a second story, the benefits tend to out-weigh the cost. Cullum’s basements offer homeowners a flexible space with many options and uses.
In the Village at Mountain Shadows in Paradise Valley, the basement option has been configured to create Cullum’s signature one-of-a-kind ‘Car Bar’. Only six lots and two for-sale model homes remain available. This high-end amenity gives homeowners a basement option that includes a space to park your car, equipped with its own elevator that is used to lower the most prized possession from the main garage to the basement showroom, utilizing a motorized lift system.
Wall-to-wall glass provides easy visibility of collector cars and motorcycles from the other luxurious areas within the Car Bar level, including a custom theater, wet bar and wine display, plush seating area with flat screen TV, and a poker/game table.
“It’s rare in Arizona that you get a basement, let alone a Car Bar or our 19th Hole,” said Rod Cullum, president and founder of Cullum Homes. “Just like the homes we build, our basements are cutting edge and create unique spaces for golfers, entertainers and car enthusiasts to enjoy and show off their one-of-a-kind finds and technology in the most unique space possible.”
Other basement uses include family rooms, extra bedrooms, play rooms for small children, wine cellar/wine storage, theater, office/study and general storage space
All but five of Cullum’s 33-custom golf estates in The Village at Seven Desert Mountain are located on the golf course. The homes are inside the 90-acre community, which is just to the west of the existing main gate on Cave Creek Road. The entire Seven Desert Mountain community will feature 190 homes designed around a par 54, 18-hole golf course and new clubhouse. Cullum's golf estates are available in one and two story options. The homes will range in size from approximately 3304 - 6500 square feet with prices starting at $1,995,000.
The No. 7 course, which is now open, is one of only two private par 54-rated courses in the United States and is expected to be a significant draw for Desert Mountain. Homeowners at Seven Desert Mountain will become either lifestyle or equity golf member at Desert Mountain,(subject to Desert Mountain membership approval) gaining access to its world-class amenities including its newly renovated Sonoran Spa and Fitness Center, tennis complex, miles of private hiking and biking trails, six additional private championship golf courses, distinctive clubhouses and restaurants.
