Make your plans to attend our 35th Annual International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition! It will be held August 27-29, 2021, near Concordia, Kansas. If that sounds kind of familiar, it’s not déjà vu all over again. It’s the same show we had planned for this year, with two differences. One is the dates, and the other is even more attractions as the hosts will make the year’s delay more than worth everyone’s wait.
The show is hosted by Prairie Plowing Days on the Kurt Kocher Farm, 1151 Hawk Road, Glasco, Kansas, south of Concordia. You’ll see working and static exhibits of historic construction equipment, steam engines and prairie tractors.
Working exhibits? Two pond dams will be rebuilt with a dragline and crawlers. Rock will be quarried on-site and moved to a crusher powered by a steam engine. A road will be built using elevating graders, scrapers, slips, pull graders and other equipment. More recent machinery will include a 1950s concrete batch plant and concrete placing operations.
Other demonstrations will include steam engines, crawlers and kerosene tractors pulling a variety of gang plows. Antique trucks will also be on hand. Clark machinery, including Airborne dozers from World War II and 290M scrapers from the Vietnam War, will be featured. Toy, model and collectibles vendors will be on hand. There will be a tour of attractions in Concordia on Friday, and there will be plenty for the kids to do, too.
People movers will transport folks around the grounds on a regular schedule. Personal mobility vehicles are welcome, and golf cart rental is available after May 1 through KC Golf Cart Company. To reserve a golf cart, go on line at www.kcgolfcartco.com or e-mail andy@kcgolfcartco.com.
Show hours are 9 to 7 Friday, 9 to 5 Saturday and 9 to 4 Sunday. Admission at the gate is $10 per day, $20 for the weekend, and kids under age 16 are free. Payment is by cash only, please!
To reach the show from Concordia, drive 9 miles south on US81, then 2½ miles west on Hawk Road. From the US24/US 81 junction, 4 miles north on US81 and 2 ½ miles west on Hawk Road.
The Big Dig Banquet is Saturday, August 28 at the Cloud County Fairgrounds Commercial Building, on the northeast edge of Concordia at 615 Industrial Road, just south of KS Highway 9. Dinner is at 7:00 with social hour at 6:00. A cash bar is available. Contact the HCEA, 419-352-5616, for tickets - $30.00 for adults, $15.00 12 and under. Order by August 18!
