Construction safety has always focused on prevention, and for good reason. Training, fall protection, hazard assessments, inspections, and protective equipment are essential to keeping workers safe. Even with strong prevention plans, emergencies still happen, and response time makes all the difference. Many contractors are asking an important question: what happens after something goes wrong?

The “Fatal Four” Are Only Part of the Construction Safety Conversation
For years, the industry has focused on OSHA’s “Fatal Four” hazards: falls, struck-by incidents, electrocutions, and caught-in or caught-between incidents. Contractors should continue investing in prevention and jobsite controls designed to reduce these risks. But safety planning also needs to focus on the first few minutes, even seconds, after an incident occurs.

Every contractor has procedures. Many have radios, check-ins, and emergency action plans. But the real test is whether a worker in distress can quickly alert the right people when they cannot reach a phone, shout for help, or explain their location. This is the construction safety blind spot: the time lost before anyone knows there is a problem.
Why Real-Time Alerts Matter on Construction Jobsites
That’s why more construction companies are evaluating wearable safety technology as part of broader jobsite safety programs, as contractors place greater emphasis on emergency response.
