Willmeng Marks Start of New Municipal Complex for City of Surprise

Project will include new Fire Station 309, an Aquatics Center and park


Willmeng and the City of Surprise kicked off work on a multi-faceted municipal project that will include a new fire station as well as a community pool and park. This project is located north of Cactus Road at Perryville Road in the fast-growing southwest portion of the City of Surprise. Fire Station 309, the Aquatics Center and park will be situated on the same site and will be constructed simultaneously.


LEA Architects is the lead design firm on the fire station and community pool, with Architekton leading design on the park aspects.


The new Fire Station 309 will be a state-of-the-art public safety facility, complete with four apparatus bays, fitness room with adjacent storage room and restroom, decontamination room, turn-out gear locker room, SCBA room, workshop, two EMS rooms, janitor and elec./community room, 10 dorms, five restrooms, laundry, dining room with patios, day room, full kitchen with pantry, office space, a public lobby and restrooms, exam room, storage and restroom and conference room, break and workstation area, and mechanical and fire riser rooms.


There will be a police substation within the station and will include a lobby waiting area, ADA public restroom and staff restroom, two private offices, and patrol officer area with 4-5 cubicles. The police substation will have a separate entrance and separate secured officer parking.


This station will be the third fire station that Willmeng has been the general contractor for the City of Surprise. Willmeng completed Fire Station 304 in December of 2020 and Fire Station 308 in September of 2021. Willmeng also recently wrapped up work on Surprise Countryside Park, a 12-acre facility on Greenway Rd., just north of Countryside Elementary School.


The Aquatics Center is the third public pool for the City. The Aquatics Center will include three separate bodies of water; a recreational pool with water features and slides, a 50-meter competitive pool with diving area, shaded stadium seating for spectators, parking, restrooms, locker rooms, concessions area, training room and office. The park component will include a playground, splash pad, ramadas throughout the park and basketball courts.


The community pool with park and fire station will include site development, landscape, civil improvements, site lighting and utility services. The community pool with park and fire station will also include the construction of the offsites. This will include but not limited to water, sewer, the roadway widening of Cactus Road and Perryville Road, and the full build out of the intersection of Cactus and Perryville, including the installation of a new traffic signal.
