Central Station to Celebrate East Tower Topping Out, May 23rd, 2024

Central Station redevelopment, the visionary one million square foot, mixed-use, transit-oriented development project will host a topping-out ceremony for the East Tower on May 23, 2024. This event marks a significant milestone in the construction progress of Central Station's iconic residential towers.

Located in the heart of downtown, next to the historic Security Building, Civic Space Park, and ASU's Downtown Campus, Central Station is set to become a new city landmark consisting of two residential towers that will offer market-rate, student, and workforce housing, two levels of below-grade parking, City of Phoenix transit hub, and retail/office spaces. Central  Station addresses the community's need and desire for quality housing located adjacent to public transit.

Slated to open in early 2025, Central Station will transform how users experience the city's primary downtown bus and light rail transit center, which serves two million passengers annually. Central Station is a public-private partnership with the city of Phoenix retaining ownership of the land and the development partners entering into a long-term ground lease for the project.

Representatives from the City of Phoenix, including Mayor Kate Gallego, along with members from the  development and project teams, GMH Communities, CBRE Investment Management, Medistar Corporation, Layton Construction, and Multistudio will attend the topping out to celebrate this important milestone.

Central Station is located on 2.6 acres at Central Avenue and East Van Buren Street, south of Civic Space Park. It represents the collective vision and dedication of its investors and the community. With a shared commitment to innovation and urban vibrancy, Central Station will redefine downtown living in Phoenix.

“The topping-out of the East Tower marks an exciting next step in the journey to bring Central Station to life in our downtown,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said. “Building Central Station is a testament to Phoenix’s commitment to transit-oriented development, and the final product will enhance connectivity, bring additional housing and businesses into our urban core, and ultimately transform the skyline of our growing city.”

“The topping out of Central Station’s East Tower is the latest landmark milestone for GMH’s residential living vertical,” said Gary Holloway Jr., Chief Executive Officer and President, GMH Communities. “Our state-of-the-art apartments enable residents to live a sophisticated and convenient lifestyle. At the Central Station East Tower, residents will have access to exceptional amenities and unrivaled service, enabling them to thrive in a bustling city like Phoenix.”

“CBRE Investment Management is proud to be in partnership with GMH Communities and the City of Phoenix on such a significant mixed-use project that will bring new housing, office and retail space to downtown Phoenix,” said Ming Lee, Senior Managing Director and Head of Development for CBRE Investment Management. “This project serves as a prominent piece of our overall development strategy, which spans multiple product types across the U.S.”
