Ed Robson, an icon in the home building industry, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the hockey arena named in his honor at Colorado College (CC) on Saturday, September 18. The founder of Robson Communities, Inc. played hockey for the Colorado College Tigers in the 1950s and is a key donor for the state-of-the-art complex.
Robson said he was humbled to be at the ceremony as he received a standing ovation. He credited the beginning of his hard-earned success when he received a scholarship from Colorado College. He said he hopes his alma mater has a strong season at the new venue because “winning is important to the fans, students, and city.”
The 3,407 seat-arena is approximately 120,000 square feet and includes competition space, locker and restrooms, concessions, storage, and administrative offices. A multipurpose space and outdoor patio will be used for various events and student activities.
Robson graduated from CC in 1954 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Banking. Robson also served in the Marines. During a five-year tour, Robson was granted leave to play hockey for Team USA in 1955 and the next year, 1956, was selected to become a member of the US Olympic hockey team. Robson closed out his last three years completing flight school and flying Marine helicopters in Hawaii. In 1972, he began his legacy of creating active adult communities with world-class amenities, visionary home designs and countless social opportunities.
Philanthropy is a vital part of Mr. Robson’s life. In addition to Colorado College, he has supported many charitable organizations, cultural and education
