McCarthy Expands Firm’s Mission Critical Projects Group with the Addition of Four New Team Members

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. announces four additions to the firm’s Mission Critical projects group, which is focused on the construction of data centers, operations and control centers, telecom facilities as well as renovations and upgrades to infrastructure systems. The new team members, who are based in the firm’s Phoenix office, include Ryan Ferguson, Mike Clements, Pep Arballo and David Mazzarelli. Together, the new members bring nearly a century of construction industry and highly technical mission critical project experience to the firm’s growing Mission Critical projects group.

Over the years, McCarthy Building Companies has built some of the most complex facilities for customers across the country. Utilizing the depth of expertise gained from these projects, the new Phoenix-based team members are expanding the firm’s focus on Mission Critical facilities as they continue to form the backbone of the digital-based economy and providing a broader range of specialized services to clients in this market sector.

Ryan Ferguson hired as Director of Mission Critical projects


With nearly two decades of experience in construction, Ferguson has carved a niche working on Mission Critical facilities with 24/7 operational systems, including data centers, operations and control centers, telecom facilities and infrastructure systems for a wide variety of clients around the country. His vast experience in preconstruction and construction positions allows Ferguson to successfully evaluate and address these technical projects and lead teams through the preconstruction, construction and commissioning phases. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He is a LEED AP BD+C Accredited Professional by the U.S. Green Building Council and is a graduate of the Arizona Builders Alliance Leadership Development Forum. Ferguson is also a member of Infrastructure Masons, 7x24 Exchange International and Urban Land Institute.

Mike Clements hired as Preconstruction Manager


Clements has nearly two decades of experience in construction with 15 years focused on data center construction. He began his career as a lead electrician for a Phoenix military base and ultimately grew to specialize in mechanical, electrical and plumbing, which is what he will focus on with McCarthy’s Mission Critical project group. Having also previously served as an owner’s rep and owner, he provides a valuable perspective to the group and its clients. Clements is a member of AFCOM and heavily involved in 7x24 Mission Critical. Clements is a registered contractor in Arizona and is PMP and OSHA certified. In addition to an electrical contracting license, he holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona.

Pep Arballo hired as Senior Superintendent


Arballo brings 25 years of experience constructing data centers and other mission critical facilities. He specializes in all aspects of Mission Critical construction with a focus on electrical, mechanical and plumbing disciplines. His depth of understanding in the commissioning process of data centers is critical to the successful delivery of projects for customers. Arballo began his career in New Mexico as a member of the plumber and pipefitters local union.

David Mazzarelli hired as Senior Project Manager


Mazzarelli has extensive experience managing field teams and engaging in the preconstruction phase for ground-up Mission Critical construction projects as well as complex renovation and upgrade projects on active campuses. Over the years, Mazzarelli has worked with various customers, both public and private, on critical infrastructure and data center projects. He completed Safety Trained Supervisor certification through BCSP, is OSHA-certified and earned a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management from Brigham Young University.
