Commits Minimum of $150K Over Three-Year Partnership to Ryan House and Arizona Bleeding Disorders

McCarthy Building Companies Inc., through its philanthropic community impact program, Heart Hats®, recently named two Arizona charities, Ryan House and Arizona Bleeding Disorders, as its charitable partners for the new three-year grant cycle, which runs through 2027. In addition to volunteer support from McCarthy’s more than 900 Arizona employee-owners and their families, Heart Hats® is providing a minimum annual contribution of $25,000 to each organization as well as donating the firm’s construction expertise and materials for a hands-on project for Arizona Bleeding Disorders.

“These partnerships would not be possible without the generosity of our McCarthy employee-owners and industry trade partners in supporting efforts in the communities in which we live and build,” said Mitch Terrell, Heart Hats® Southwest committee chair. “It is incredibly rewarding to partner with Ryan House and Arizona Bleeding Disorders over a three-year period and help further the missions of these local, charitable organizations.”

Ryan House has been enriching the quality of life and creating cherished memories for children and their families, providing a much-needed break from 24/7 caregiving as they navigate life-limiting or end-of-life journeys for the past 15 years. Each year, children can receive up to 28 overnight stays at Ryan House, at no cost to their families, supported by around-the-clock nursing and medical care. These stays offer families much-needed rest, so they can focus on other family concerns, or provide greater care to siblings. Additionally, Ryan House partners with Hospice of the Valley to serve as the only hospice facility for children in Arizona by providing a loving end-of-life experience for children and their families.

To assist Ryan House’s goal of supporting nearly 300 Arizona children in 2025, McCarthy’s employees will be volunteering at the house, located adjacent to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Central Phoenix, by cooking meals for visitors, reading and playing games with the children, as well as participating in various small home renovation projects.

“We are honored to be selected as a Heart Hats charity partner by McCarthy,” said Tracy Leonard-Warner, executive director of Ryan House. “Their generous support and meaningful three-year partnership benefit our Sponsor a Stay and Child Life programs. With McCarthy’s financial commitment and volunteer engagement, we can continue to provide vital care and comfort to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.”

Additionally, Heart Hats® will support the mission of Arizona Bleeding Disorders (AZBD) – formerly Arizona Hemophilia Association – an organization that serves Arizona families and individuals affected by bleeding disorders such as hemophilia and von Willebrand disease. Since 1967, this volunteer-based organization has aimed to improve the quality of life for these individuals by providing support, education and targeted advocacy to ensure affordable medical coverage across Arizona.

Each year, AZBD hosts Camp H.O.N.O.R., a fully funded summer camp experience for children experiencing bleeding disorders and their families, providing full medical support on site and educational experiences tailored toward different disorders. Children learn valuable lessons, including how to self-infuse their medication with the support of siblings and caregivers.

Through the partnership with AZBD, Heart Hats® will undertake a hands-on renovation project to support the organization’s growing event and programming needs.

“We are incredibly grateful for our new partnership with McCarthy Heart Hats and looking forward to the amazing work to be done to our backyard and casita,” said Leigh Goldstein, executive director of Arizona Bleeding Disorders. “Transforming this space will not only enhance our ability to host community events and programs but also provide a welcoming environment for the families we serve. It’s partnerships like this that truly help us build a stronger, more supportive community.”

Through Heart Hats, McCarthy’s employee-owners in the Southwest region have historically donated more than $65,000 per year to local charities, with more than 5,000 volunteer hours logged. Employees are encouraged to volunteer with their project teams and families, each receiving one paid day to volunteer per year.
