Casa Grande Elementary School District and McCarthy Building to create 3-school campus

Casa Grande Elementary School District has partnered with McCarthy Building Companies on a project to add Casa Grande Elementary onto the same ground as Saguaro Elementary School and Casa Grande Middle School campus.

The project allows Casa Grande Elementary to share the 46-acre ground with 525 students at Saguaro Elementary and 580 students at Casa Grande Middle school. This includes the administration offices, media center, cafeteria, and 270 new parking spots.

Project Manager Michael Horn with McCarthy Building Companies, said, "Since we are building two schools on a large campus, more than 1,000 students will benefit from this modernization project. These schools were built more than 40 years ago, so the new campus will be a bright spot for students in Casa Grande.”

This plan came about by wanting to save money with renovation costs, long-term use of the facility, and community needs. The new ground will have several new school buildings, separating elementary and middle school classrooms.

Mark Davenport, partner of SPS+Architects, said in a press release that, “Throughout this year, we've been able to dig in and really understand the fabric of the Casa Grande community by collaborating with district staff and stakeholders.”

Bryan Harris, director of professional development & public relations Casa Grande Elementary School District, said the project "will create a school that will meet the needs of students by offering them a space where they can be creative, explore exciting learning opportunities, and develop into life-long learners. While the project is ambitious, our students and our community deserves up-to-date and modern facilities. Quite simply, the goal of this project is to create a functional and flexible environment that is conducive the learning.”

The funds for the project was approved in November 2016, and the project should be finished by summer 2018.
